History
Gulfstream G550 for Poland. 2017 year.
We wrote a lot about the political side of choosing Gulfstream G550 planes for transporting the most important people in Poland in other articles. We are convinced that the best offer and the best aircraft in the class of commercial machines have been selected. The Gulfstream G550 is truly an aircraft of the highest quality, technology and technology. On the one hand, the construction is old, but on the other hand, very mature. Such an aircraft in Poland should be in service in the 90s of the 20th century.
On August 31, 2016, the Ministry of National Defense, headed by Minister Antoni Macierewicz, announced the commencement of two procedures for the purchase of two "small" and three "medium" aircraft to transport the most important people in the country, which were published on September 2, 2016. In fact, both contracts have been split. The Polish side has set the difficult requirement of delivering the aircraft as early as 2017. On October 14, 2016, two offers were disclosed that affected small aircraft: Dassault Falcon 7X by French company Dassault Aviation and Gulfstream G550 by American company Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., owned by General Dynamics. The Dassault offer cost PLN 453.4 million net, and the deliveries could take place in 2018, while Gulfstream valued the offer at PLN 440.5 million net with deliveries in 2017. On October 21, 2016, the choice of the G550 aircraft was announced. On November 14, 2016, the Armament Inspectorate signed a contract with Gulfstream Aerospace worth PLN 440.5 million net (PLN 538 million gross) for two G550s (including a logistics package, documentation and training) with a delivery date by August 15, 2017. On the Polish side, the contract was signed by the Head of the Armament Inspectorate of the Ministry of National Defense, Brig. Adam Duda, and on the American side, Jeffrey Crosby.
Since Gulfstream has a dozen or so planes on the production line, it could afford to postpone the execution of orders for other recipients and deliver the planes to Poland on time. Thus, the contract execution did not exceed 10 months. This would not be possible with a larger order. On the other hand, it showed that the USA treated Poland seriously, despite such a small order. For Poland, the aircraft No. 5547, which made the first flight on October 5, 2016, and No. 5554, which made the first flight on December 21, 2016, were selected. the construction of these aircraft began in 2015 for other contracting parties. The G550 airplane No. 5547 was presented to the Polish delegation on January 6 in Savannah. The plane was then transported to Appleton, Wisconsin, for interior finishing. The same was done with the second copy. In March 2017, the plane with Nb 0002 was presented to another Polish delegation. The machine was already painted and had a fully equipped crew cockpit. Polish planes were given proper names: Nb 0001 "Prince Józef Poniatowski", Nb 0002 "General Kazimierz Pułaski".
On June 21, 2017, the Gulfstream G550 Nb 0001 “Prince Józef Poniatowski” plane landed at Okęcie Airport. The plane was greeted with a water salute from the airport fire brigade. In an official ceremony, the plane was baptized and blessed. The actress Halina Łabonarska was the godmother.
Around 10:00 a.m. on July 29, 2017, the second Gulfstream G550 Nb 0002 aircraft, intended for the transport of the most important people in the country, landed at Bydgoszcz Airport, where Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze No.2 are located. The plane landed in Bydgoszcz because Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze No. 2 belonging to the Polish Armaments Group are their service technician. The plane was named "General Kazimierz Pulaski". The godmother was the lieutenant of the Polish Army, Magdalena Kozak, who is a doctor specializing in emergency medicine and who participated in the mission in Afghanistan.
