The Cirrus Aircraft SR22 tourist plane is a single-engine, four- or five-seater composite aircraft developed in 2001 by Cirrus Aircraft from Duluth, Minnesota, USA. The aircraft is a development of the Cirrus SR20 design, in which the wing was enlarged, fuel tanks were enlarged and a more powerful 310 hp (231 kW) piston engine was used.

The SR22 series is the world’s best-selling General Aviation aircraft, which has been in series production since 2003. By the end of 2019, 6,149 units had been built and, including the SR20 version, a total of 7,645 units had been delivered. This amount accounts for 30% of the world production of this type of aircraft. In 2014, the SR22 and SR22T versions were the world’s best-selling four- and five-seat GA aircraft for 12 years in a row.

The airframe of the aircraft was made of plastic (composites). The aircraft was equipped with a parachute rescue system for the pilot, passengers and aircraft – the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). The plane received the nickname "plane with a parachute". Currently (2023) the Cirrus Aircraft offer includes the following versions of the aircraft: SR20, SR22, SR22T and the Vision Jet aircraft, which is powered by a turbojet engine. In September 2019, Cirrus presented the TRAC version, intended for training new pilots. The aircraft has simplified equipment, more durable seats and a reinforced landing gear for hard landings. The instructor has the ability to simulate typical failures, which are to be prevented by the student pilot.

The SR22 was certified by the FAI in November 2001. Production started in 2003. The aircraft is powered by a Continental IO-550-N piston engine, 310 hp (231 kW), 6-cylinder horizontal. The propeller has three blades. The aircraft is a low-wing monoplane equipped with a fixed landing gear with a nose wheel. During taxiing, the direction of travel is controlled by differential braking of the wheels of the main landing gear.

To control the aircraft, the pilot has a side stick, which is called a side yoke. There are 4 or 5 seats in the cockpit, with the same maximum weight.

Because during production, the company introduces modifications, which is why the planes are additionally marked, for example, G3, i.e. the third generation.

In January 2020, Cirrus introduced a new mobile application for the SR series, called "Cirrus IQ", which enables remote communication with the aircraft, including access to information about the aircraft’s pre-flight condition such as fuel and oxygen levels, battery voltage, oil temperature, aircraft location and flight times.
