The airport of the PZL Świdnik plant began operating in 1951. In practice, it was a reactivation of the airport that existed here before the Second World War. The purpose of the created airport was to serve the newly established Aviation Factory. It was and still is used to conduct production activities and test new types of aviation equipment. Bench tests, flight tests and training for future helicopter users are held there.
In 1953, the Workers Aeroclub in Świdnik began operating at the Świdnik Airport. Therefore, the owner of the airport is the Production Plant and the Aeroclub of Lublin.
The airport is adapted to currently produced multi-role helicopters. PZL W-3 Sokół, PZL SW-4, AW 149. Handover flights are carried out here after major repairs of helicopters, including PZL Mi-2 and PZL Kania helicopters. This airport handles a relatively large number of air operations – 12 take-offs and landings per day. Up to 22 operations per day. 20 operations during the day and 2 at night.

The airport is also used by Aeroklub Świdnik, which in 2019 was the organizer of the second edition of the Air Festival shows. The third edition of the Air Festival took place on June 4, 2023.
