Steam locomotive Ty45.
The Ty45 steam locomotive is a Polish heavy steam locomotive designed mainly for heavy freight trains. Ty45 was developed at the HCP factory in Poznań. Ty45 steam locomotives were manufactured by HCP and FABLOK. The production was carried out in the period 1946 - 1951. Axis system 1'E (1-5-0 or oOOOOO), Polish designation small letter "y".
It is worth answering the question here; Why was Poland still developing new steam locomotives after the Second World War, when the world was already developing diesel and electric locomotives? The main reason was (and are) large hard coal deposits in Poland, and were the shortages of crude oil and electricity. That is why Poland was not backward, but looked at economically so as not to become dependent on other countries.
The Ty45 steam locomotive was constructed based on the revised documentation of the pre-war Ty37 Polish locomotive. Several significant changes were made to the locomotive. The steam locomotive crew booth was changed to a closed type booth, which improved the working conditions of the team. The steam locomotive and tender were connected with a canvas sleeve. The fire box of the boiler is made of steel. The new tender 32D47 was developed, which takes 32 m3 of water and a large supply of coal, 12 tons. Tender has a characteristic barrel shape. The production of tenders was launched at PaFaWag in Wrocław. A stoker was developed for the Ty45 locomotive.
The production of the Ty45 steam locomotive was started in 1946 in the HCP and FABLOK plants. 258 copies were built in Poznań, and 170 copies in Chrzanów. By 1951, a total of 428 Ty45 locomotives were built. Of this amount, 20 locomotives were transferred to the industrial railways.
During operation, in the period 1964-1965, some Ty45 steam locomotives were adapted to fuel mazout. The Ty45 locomotives were the basis for the development of the more powerful Ty51 locomotives.
Ty45-386.
The Ty45-386 steam locomotive is an exhibit in the Chabówka open-air museum. No. 2546. The locomotive has a tender 32D47-11. The locomotive was built in 1950 at the FABLOK plant in Chrzanów. She was sent to work on May 26, 1950, at the Kraków Płaszów station. In 1947, she went to Rzeszów. In 1988, the locomotive underwent a general overhaul at ZPTK in Strzemieszyce. The service ended at the beginning of the 90-year period. The locomotive went to the slope, and then to the Chabówka open-air museum.
The Ty45-20 steam locomotive is located in the open-air museum of Jaworzyna Śląska.
