In 2015, the Poznań Aero Club decided to buy the Kąkolewo Airport from the Military Property Agency. On January 11, 2016, the airport was entered into the register of landing sites kept by the Civil Aviation Office under number 343. In April 2017, the Aero Club officially became the owner of the airport. Thanks to this, it was possible to leave the airport in Kobylnica, which had no prospects for development. The following years saw the gradual relocation of individual sections of the Aero Club from Kobylnica to Kąkolewo. At the end of 2017, the Poznań University of Technology purchased 10 hectares of the airport from the Poznań Aero Club in order to build a training center for the Aviation Training Center operating as part of the university's offer.
Currently, Kąkolewo Airport is owned by the Poznań Aero Club and the Poznań University of Technology. Address; Aeroport sp. z o. o. Ulica Lotnicza 3. 62-065 Kąkolewo. The airport provides aviation training, sports activities and scientific and research activities. In addition, the airport has the status of a public airport and is accessible to General Aviation aircraft.
The airport has a concrete RWY, a taxiway system, operational, hangar and technical facilities. The airport is operational all year round, 24 hours a day. It has an appropriate lighting system, operational services and equipment to maintain the flight field. There is a gas station at the airport. Kąkolewo Airport is available for public services: Police, LPR Air Rescue, Agro-aviation, Fire-fighting aviation. The airport has a RWY in place of the military runway, but with smaller dimensions. A runway with a grass surface is located in parallel.
At the airport there is: A facility - the Aviation Museum. AP Solar Power Plant. Robot testing facility. Satellite Communication Station. Observatory. Center of the ORLEN Żelazny aerobatic group. The facility - the Aviation Museum was located in a historic wooden hangar, which was moved from the airport in Kobylnica. The airport's owners intend to create a specialized supra-regional training center for aviation education of pilots, aircraft mechanics, air traffic controllers and for conducting scientific, research and development work for the needs of civil aviation.
A hangar for the Poznań University of Technology has already been built at the Kąkolewo airport. The hangar is of steel construction, with an area of 1,000 square meters, intended for aircraft of the Poznań University of Technology. The hangar has two gates, measuring 16 m x 3.5 m and an apron. The facility was built from the Poznań University of Technology's own funds in 2019.
The Poznań Aero Club Gliding Center was built, which consists of a glider hangar with an area of 1,000 square meters and workshop facilities with an area of 400 square meters. The facility is located on the southern side of the airport, with direct access to the grass runway, which is used mainly for gliders. The glider hangar was made of a steel structure, with two gates measuring 16 m x 3.5 m, enabling the free introduction of gliders with a wingspan of up to 15 m.
In May 2021, the construction of a gas station enabling the sale of aviation fuel was completed. The station is located in the central part of the airport opposite the Poznań University of Technology complex. Its design, using two fueling systems, consists of a two-chamber steel ground tank with a capacity of 30 cubic meters, containing AVGAS 100LL aviation fuel, the station is equipped with an electronic distributor.
The hangar of the Poznań University of Technology is of steel construction, with an area of 1,500 square meters, with a back-up area of 250 square meters. The administration building, with scientific facilities, is located between the hangars of the Poznań University of Technology. It is two-story and also has office and social space.
The "Orlen Grupa Aerobatyczna Żelazny" hangar is of steel structure, with an area of 528 square meters, intended for aircraft of the Żelazny Group. The hangar has one sectional door measuring 16 m x 3.5 m.
The hangar of the "Gliding Team" Performance Group is a steel structure facility with an area of 600 square meters, intended for gliders and is located next to the hangar of the "Orlen Aerobatic Group Żelazny".
