Air Show in Kraków

The IX Małopolski Piknik Lotniczy was held on June 29-30, 2013. The weather and the audience went well.

The North American Rockwell OV-10 Bronco plane was the biggest attraction of the 9th Aviation Picnic. Such a plane was already in Krakow in 2010. The North American Rockwell OV-10 Bronco aircraft, a light attack and observation aircraft powered by two Garret turboprop engines. The OV-10 Bronco was commissioned by US NAVY. The plane was flown on July 16, 1965. After North American became part of Rockwell, it was known as Rockwell OV-10. The machine has a take-off weight of 6,600 kg. As a result of the Vietnam War, the plane received some significant changes. The cockpit was armored, and self-sealing fuel tanks were introduced. The plane turned out to be an excellent anti-insurgency machine, so it was purchased by several countries. The North American Rockwell OV-10 Bronco plane presented at the event belongs to the team from France.

The highlight of the show was the flight show of the TS-11 Iskra nb 04 plane. The plane was painted in the colors of the prototype side number 04. Unfortunately, the plane could only be admired in flight.

The Romanian Aerobatic Yakers (Iacarii Acrobati) band was once again in Krakow. The team presented itself on two Yak-52 TW aircraft. The Aerobatic Yakers is a private team of aviation fanatics that has three Yak-52 TW planes. The Yak-52 TW planes are machines with a landing gear with a tail wheel, reinforced wings and more powerful engines. The planes are beautifully painted in a brown and sand camouflage pattern, similar to the 40's of the 20th century.

Mr. Jurgis Kairys was in Krakow, a favorite of the audience and a regular visitor to Krakow. This time, Mr. Jurgis Kairys was with the new Sukhoi Su-31, which is a development of the Sukhoi Su-26. At the picnic there was an aerobatic Extra 200 aircraft, registration D-EEMT and Mr. Uwe Zimmermann, a regular in Krakow. There was a group called "Żelazny" with three planes and a glider. In the air, we could enjoy a group of 3AT3 planes.

There was a large group of historical planes at the picnic. There was a Dornier Do-28D2 "Skyservant", 59 + 11. In 1964, Dornier began work on a transport plane with STOL characteristics for the transport of 12 passengers. The prototype of the plane called Do-28D "Skyservant" was flew on February 23, 1966. The aircraft has a fuselage with a characteristic rectangular cross-section and an equally distinctive method of mounting the engines to the fuselage. In 1967, serial production of Do-28D began, for civil and military purposes. In total, over 200 copies were built.
