On January 1, 2011, the 22nd Tactical Air Base was established on the basis of the 40th Squadron and the 22nd Air Base. MiG-29 planes are operated in Malbork. On November 2, 2015, the 22nd Tactical Air Base in Malbork was named after Brigadier General, pilot Stanisław Skalski. By decision of the Ministry of National Defense No. 166/MON of May 2, 2011, the unit took over the banner of the 22nd Air Base.
Since 2015, the unit has inherited the traditions of: 4th Aviation Squadron (1919), 4th Intelligence Squadron "Toruńska" (1920), 141st and 142nd Fighter Squadron of the 4th Aviation Regiment (1928-1939), 306th Fighter Squadron "Toruński" (1940), 1st Poland Air Division (August-October 1944), 4th Mixed Air Division (1944-1945), 1st Pomeranian Mixed Air Division (1945-1946), 1st Fighter Aviation Regiment "Warszawa" (1943-1946), 7th Bomber Aviation Regiment (1950- 1951), 45th Mobile Aviation Repair Workshop "PARM-5" (1952-1957), 9th Fighter Aviation Division (1952-1967), 29th Fighter Aviation Regiment (1952-1969), 26th Fighter Aviation Regiment (1952-1989), 14th Airfield Construction Battalion (1952-1999), 41st Fighter Aviation Regiment (1952-2000), 45th Field Aviation Workshops (1957-1995), 30th Mobile Car Repair Workshops (1965-1992), 4th Pomeranian Fighter Aviation Division (1967-1985) ), 13th Radiotechnical Battalion (1968-1990), 84th Communications Battalion (1968-1992), 26th Radiotechnical Battalion (1971-1995), Army Air Combat Fighter Aviation Command Center (1978-1983), 49th Aviation Squadron (1979-1990) , Combat Command Center of Fighter Aviation of the Front Air Forces (1983-1988), 4th Pomeranian Fighter Aviation Division named after Brig. Gen. pil. Józef Smaga (1985-1991), 14th Airfield Damage Removal Battalion (1999-2007), 14th Airfield Renovation Battalion (2007-2010), 41st Tactical Aviation Squadron (2001-2010), 22nd Air Base (2001-2010).
By decision of the Minister of National Defense No. 289/MON of October 8, 2013, a commemorative badge of the 22nd Tactical Air Base was introduced.
