The MiG-15s aircraft were intended as armament for the newly created Fighter Regiments.
Due to the tense international situation (War in Korea, Berlin Blockade, Admission of Germany to the NATO alliance), Moscow forced Poland to develop arms above the defense needs of Poland. Tanks, combat vehicles, and planes were built, and new military units were created. However, the plan exceeded the capabilities of a war-ravaged country and a poorly managed communist economy.
On December 11, 1951, the Minister of National Defense issued Order No. 0096 / Org. On the formation of new air regiments, among them: 20 Fighter Regiment, 23 Fighter Regiment, 27 Fighter Regiment.
20th Fighter Aviation Regiment.
The 20th Fighter Aviation Regiment was to be created as a unit of JW 4760, at the Krzesiny Airport. It was to be subject to the 6th Fighter Aviation Division. The unit was to be created as a full-time employee No. 6/100, with 239 soldiers and 2 contract employees. Creation lasted from May 1 to November 1, 1952.
23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment.
The 23rd Regiment of Air Defense Fighter Aviation was to be created as a unit of JW 4097, at Pruszcz Gdański Airport. It was to be under the 10th Division of the Air Defense Fighter Aviation. The unit was to be created as a full-time employee No. 6/165, with 290 soldiers and 2 contract employees. Creation lasted from May 1 to December 1, 1952.
24th Fighter Aviation Regiment.
The 27th Fighter Aviation Regiment was to be created as a unit of JW 4600 at Świdwin Airport. She was under the 11th Fighter Aviation Division. The unit was to be created as a full-time employee No. 6/100, with 239 soldiers and 2 contract employees. Creation lasted from May 1 to November 1, 1952.
27th Fighter Aviation Regiment.
The 27th Fighter Aviation Regiment was to be created as a unit of JW 4519 at Świdwin Airport. She was under the 11th Fighter Aviation Division. The unit was to be created as a full-time employee No. 6/100, with 239 soldiers and 2 contract employees. Creation lasted from May 1 to November 1, 1952.
43rd Fighter Aviation Regiment.
The 27th Fighter Regiment was to be created as a unit of JW 4519 at Modlin Airport. She was under the 11th Fighter Aviation Division. The unit was to be created as a full-time employee No. 6/100, with 239 soldiers and 2 contract employees. Creation lasted from May 1 to November 1, 1952.
Initially, all Jakovlev Jak-23s aircraft were anticipated as armament in all these Regiments, followed by MiG-15s fighters and its Polish version of the PZL Lim-1s.
The creation of these Regiments was unreal. That is why Moscow has agreed to create in Poland, the Fighter Aviation Division in the strength of two Regiments, not three. Based on the order No. 0078 / Org. The Minister of National Defense of November 19, 1952, the commander of the Air Forces, by December 20, 1952, reformed: 20 Fighter Air Regiment, 23 Fighter Air Regiment, 24 Fighter Air Regiment, 27 Fighter Air Regiment, 43 Fighter Air Regiment.
