Fairchild A-10. 1972

History

The Fairchild A-10 is America’s best attack aircraft of the Cold War period. The CCCP built and introduced an equivalent in the form of Sukhoi Su-25. The Fairchild A-10 aircraft is the first American aircraft that was built to meet a single purpose – to directly support ground troops and destroy enemy armor. All airplanes used so far did not fulfill the tasks set for them. Sorely, the US Air Force learned about it during the Vietnam War. The first prototype of the Fairchild YA-10 A No. 71-1369 was flown on May 10, 1972.

Under pressure from the CCCP, the purchase of Suchoj Su-25 planes was considered in Poland, but the plane was in conflict with the Polish PZL I-22 Iryda program and the purchase was not made.
