Radom-Piast\u00f3w Airport is a civil and sports airport, it is one of the oldest sports airports in Poland. The airport was opened in 1928. The airport has the ICAO code – EPRP. The airport is located in Piast\u00f3w, north of Radom. It is 11 km from the center of Radom to the airport.<\/p>\n
History of Piastow Airport.<\/h3>\n
The airport was founded in 1928 as a backup airport for the Radom Sadk\u00f3w flight school. Basic glider and parachute training was carried out at the Piast\u00f3w airport. From August 1939, the 2nd Light Bomber Squadron equipped with PZL.23 "Kara\u015b" aircraft was stationed at the airport.<\/p>\n
During the German occupation, the airport was intensively used to fight the ongoing Warsaw Uprising. In January 1945, the Germans mined the landing field and buildings at the airport. The charges were detonated and the airfield was destroyed.<\/p>\n In 1946, the airport was handed over to civil authorities. It was possible to liquidate the airport, but the airport was taken over by the Polish Aeroclub. In Radom, in an arms factory, an Aviation Circle was founded, which over time became the host of the airport in Piast\u00f3w. Members of the circle built two gliders and renovated the landing field. The landing field was destroyed by as many as 119 craters after mine explosions. Regular flight training began in 1947.<\/p>\n In 1951, the Aero Club of Radom was forced to suspend its activities. It was planned to take over the airport again by the Polish Army, which did not happen. In 1954, the Radom Aeroclub resumed its activities. Initially, the graduates were students of Aviation Military Training, i.e. future military pilots.<\/p>\n In 1975, the Central Aerobatic Center was commissioned at the Piast\u00f3w airport.<\/p>\n Currently, the Piast\u00f3w airport is the seat of the Aeroclub of Radom. The Aeroclub is a thriving center of gliding and aviation sport. World, European and Polish championships in aerobatics and gliders are organized at the airport.<\/p>\n The landing field of the Piast\u00f3w airport is ground, but it is planned to build a concrete RWY with a length of 600 – 900 m and a width of 25 – 30 m.
