For the second time, the POLOT portal participated in the Mazury Air Show in Giżycko and at the Kętrzyn Wilamowo Airport. It was the first visit in 2012. At that time, the star of the shows was the Sikorsky S-38 flying boat. This year (2018), the star of the shows was Consolidated PBY Catalina.

Let's start from the beginning.

Mazury Air Show is an air show known in the Republic of Poland and abroad, the hallmark of which are the presentations of aircraft at Lake Niegocin. That is why the shows are always full of flying boats, amphibians and water-planes. Thanks to this, they are the only such shows in Poland.

The event is not ticketed, and the organizers provide excellent sound. The performances of aviators can be observed from the city beach in Giżycko, the local pier, port and Saint Bruno Hill. Of course, you can go to Niegocin Lake (outside the zone reserved for airplanes) and watch the shows from the yacht. Thanks to this, each spotter can choose the most suitable place for himself. The shows are complemented by a static exhibition at the Kętrzyn-Wilamowo Airport, i.e. at the Lakeland Aeroclub. Here, admission is payable for a symbolic amount.

The Mazury Air Show 2018 event was invited by: the Mayor of Giżycko - Wojciech Karol Iwaszkiewicz, the Marshal of Warmia and Mazury - Gustaw Marek Brzezin and the President of the Lake District Aero Club - Stanisław Tołwiński.

This year's Mazury Air Show was held on 4-5 August 2018. (Saturday-Sunday) and it was already the 20th edition of the Mazury Air Show. It should be added, however, that the Lake District Aeroclub organizes several aviation events during the year. In our opinion, it is one of the most dynamically operating flying clubs in the Republic of Poland. The shows were commented on by Mr. Tadeusz Sznuk and Mr. Witold Sokół, former Mikojan and Guriewicz MiG-29 combat aircraft pilot. For the purposes of the event, Radio Mazury AirShow was also launched on the 89.1 MHz radio frequency. The event was also held under the patronage of Polish Radio Program 1.

The guest of honor at the shows was the astronaut general Mirosław Hermaszewski, who always talks about aviation in an interesting way from his perspective.

11.00 - 11.30 - Masuria AirShow opening ceremony (Amphitheater Municipal Beach Giżycko).

11.30 - 12.00 - In the rhythms of the Military Orchestra from Giżycko (Amphitheater, City Beach in Giżycko).

12.00 - 14.00 - 1st block of air shows.

16.00 - 18.00 - II block of air shows.

22.00 - 22.10 - fireworks show on Lake Niegocin.

August 5, 2018 (Sunday).

11.00 - 14.00 - III, final block of air shows.

14.00 - 14.30 - In the rhythms of the Military Orchestra from Giżycko.

14.30 - 15.00 - ceremonial ending of Masuria AirShow (Amphitheater, City Beach in Giżycko).

We will start with the Polish Army. Two Mil Mi-24 attack helicopters from the base in Pruszcz Gdański participated in the event. There was also a PZL W-3 Sokół helicopter. Lockheed C-130 Hercules from the 33rd Transport Aviation Base from Powidz presented themselves during the flight over Lake Niegocin. The performance of the band Biało-Czerwone Iskry was supposed to be in the Sunday show. Unfortunately, the storm in the Warsaw Region forced the team to stay in Dęblin. Security above all else. In turn, due to strong winds, the Sunday parachute jumping with landing on the beach in Giżycko was canceled.

The biggest attraction of this year's shows was undoubtedly the amphibious Consolidated PBY Catalina G-PBTA. There are separate articles about this aircraft on our website (in Polish and in English).
