Luggage car type F 035 060. 1923 year.
A baggage car is a rail vehicle, not motorized, designed to carry luggage. Currently, the baggage wagons are not in use. Wagons of this type were popular in the period 1850-1950. The wagon was included in a scheduled or occasional passenger train. In cars of this type, suitcases (trunks) of 1st and sometimes 2nd class passengers were transported. Passengers left their luggage in the station building under the care of the railway service, which dealt with this luggage until the passenger's destination station. The wagon was designed to carry large loads. The doors to the car are larger than in passenger cars. There was staff in the wagon who looked after the transported cargo. The service had its own compartment. Pets: dogs and cats were also transported in the baggage car. The animals were placed in cages accessible from the outside and inside of the car.
Currently (2023) passenger carriages with separate places for luggage are used. Currently, passenger carriages also have separate places for bicycles, prams and wheelchairs. Koleje Śląskie, from 2021, uses special wagons for transporting bicycles, which are under the care of the train staff. Wagons are locked and opened only by a person from the conductor's team.
A luggage car type F 035 060 is an exhibit in the open-air museum in Chabowka. The wagon was built in 1923 by Chr.&Unm.Aktion Gesells. The wagon is two-axle. Maximum speed 60 km/h. The car has several entrances, four of which are wide and moved to the side, like in a freight car. The door at the end of the side is for service entry. From the car it is possible to go to the next car through the front door. There is a skylight in the roof, which was used by the staff.
After service, the wagon was rebuilt as a café. Tables, benches and a bar counter were installed. Currently (2023) the type F 035 060 baggage car is 100 years old.
