2K11 KRUG anti-aircraft missile system.
The 2K11 Krug anti-aircraft missile system was discussed in the previous chapter. The museum in Drzonów has an almost complete rocket set. Missile transport vehicles are not included in the set.
3M8M3 KRUG missile.
The missile was developed at the CCCP in 1975. The missile is radio-command guided with a TV-optical channel. The drive is a ramjet engine and additionally 4 solid fuel starting engines. At the moment of explosion, the warhead bursts into 15,000 pieces.
T-T data of the 3M8M3 KRUG missile:
The length is 7.84 m. The span is 2.70 m. The diameter of the compartment with the warhead, electronics and air tank is 0.45 m. The diameter of the missile is 0.85 m. The launch weight is 2,450 – 2,453 kg. Main stage weight 1,400 kg. Warhead weight 150 kg. Proximity fuse and additional self-destruction system. Top speed from 2,880 km/h to 4,000 km/h. According to other data, 1,100 m/s, or 3,960 km/h. Range from 6,000 m to 50,000 m. Maximum range 55,000 m.
Operation of the 2K11 KRUG system.
The system has two basic tracked vehicles: The first GM-123 is a launcher with two missiles. The second is a GM-123 with a 1S32 missile guidance station.
The basic set has two 3M8 missiles, placed on the 2P24 tracked self-propelled launcher, GM-123 vehicle. The launcher rotates 360 degrees on the vehicle and can be elevated to an angle of 70 degrees.
The 1S32 missile guidance station was placed on the chassis of the GM-123 (426-124) vehicle (the same as the missile launcher chassis). The radar works in the centimeter range. The station made it possible to detect a fighter aircraft from a distance of up to 180 km, at a flight altitude of 12,000 m.
